Karen's Story
By Karen
In early 2024, Karen was compelled to sell her home, a loss that intensified the weight of her past traumas. Having been placed into care at the age of four, she had endured a lifetime of significant challenges. This culmination of events led her to a severe mental health crisis, where she contemplated ending her life. A pivotal moment occurred when her dog, unknowingly following her during this dark period, became a symbol of hope and intervention. Seeking medical attention, Karen was diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder, depression, OCD, and PTSD. Her health was critically compromised, with dangerously high blood pressure and a raised heart rate. Despite these challenges, Karen found a lifeline through Rethink Mental Illness's Plymouth Mental Health Service. Engaging with their support, she embarked on a path of recovery, setting personal goals and achieving milestones she once thought unattainable. Today, Karen is the happiest she has ever been, having completed a half-marathon and actively fundraising for Rethink Mental Illness. Her journey underscores the transformative power of seeking help and the profound impact of dedicated mental health services.
