My experience with psychosis

By Alfy

Source:HopeFox submission

I was a bright student studying for a masters degree in a computing field. Fate had other plans for me though, and I began to suffer from a thought disordering psychosis. I had theories, about communications from outside the simulation, about numbers having special meaning, about how the universe promoted stability for the animal and human mind. I published a statistically insignificant paper in artificial intelligence. Then, after struggling with my degree and dropping out, I was diagnosed with unspecified nonorganic psychosis, something more severe. These years of my life felt like an uncontrollable storm. The walls were made of cardboard and I just kept crashing through them. Now the waters have calmed, and I can see the sun reflecting. I am currently writing a novel, as well as co-founding a social enterprise, and things are looking hopeful. Life, as it turns out, is what you make of it.
